Below is a message addressed to multifamily stakeholders from HUD’s Office of Multifamily Housing Programs regarding additional service coordination activities related to COVID-19.

Dear Multifamily Partners,

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, HUD allocated CARES Act funding to increase the amounts of existing service coordination grants to support expanded service coordination activities in HUD-assisted properties. When HUD began this process we did not know how the pandemic would impact HUD-assisted properties. While we sought to get assistance to properties quickly, there were delays moving this unique Congressional appropriation forward. As a result, funds are reaching owners at the end of their grant periods. We are exploring options to enable owners to access these funds to address COVID impacts after the end of December and hope to have an update on this soon. We understand and regret the confusion this situation has caused.

We understand the many challenges that COVID -19 has had on HUD-assisted communities, and especially on seniors living in those communities. We know the impact that COVID has had on many residents, and the extraordinary efforts made by service coordinators, other property staff, and owners and agents to keep residents safe and properties operating smoothly. We thank you for all your efforts to meet this unprecedented challenge and will update you as we work to make these funds available to serve residents.
